| The Guangzhou Opera Institute was established in October 2003 as a nonprofit, private educational organization with a focus to promote the research and exchange of opera as a performing art of the highest level. The Institute was formed by a group of world-renowned artists led by Yun Dung, the first artist of Chinese descent to sign a contract with the world-class Metropolitan Opera in New York. Their mission is to promote operas, to nurture aspiring young artists and to fulfill the public’s increasing demand for performance arts of the highest standard.
Taking advantage of its unique characteristics and available talents, the Academy will continue its development as an organization rooted in Guangzhou but promote and popularize nationally and internationally world-famous operas as well as operas reflecting unique Chinese characters and values. It will also facilitate the exchange of shared values among different cultures.
